The Grand Café: Mademoiselle Chanel’s Belle Epoque

Time at last to stop for a break at the Grand Café, built in 1899 and officially listed as a historical monuments.

It is one of France’s ten most beautiful brasseries of the 1900s.

Its vast mirrors and fresco glorifying the god of beer echo with memories of Gabrielle Chanel, who worked as a seamstress in Moulins and, after nightfall, used to sing “Ko Koroko” and “Qui a vu Coco dans le Trocadéro?”, thus earning the nickname “Coco” Chanel by which the famous fashion designer was to become known.
